The Friends of Chichester Harbour works closely with a number of partners whose focus is ensuring the Harbour continues to enthral for many years to come. These partners are:
Chichester Harbour Conservancy (CHC)
The Conservancy was established under the Chichester Harbour Conservancy Act 1971. Uniquely it is both the Statutory Harbour Authority and is responsible for the Chichester Harbour Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. As an example of the challenges the CHC faces, it has to ensure the harbour stays open and safe, while at the same time supporting nature conservation. No easy task.
We work extremely closely with CHC. The overwhelming majority of our financial grants are made in support of projects proposed and managed by CHC and all our work parties are overseen by CHC rangers.
Chichester Harbour Trust
The Chichester Harbour Trust is the second charity which works in Chichester Harbour. It exists to conserve, protect and improve the natural beauty and wildlife of the area for the public benefit by acquiring land, sites and buildings in the most vulnerable areas of the AONB to safeguard it for future generations.
The Trust now owns over 230 acres of harbourside land in 10 sites. Each site is important for the contribution it makes to the beauty of the landscape and the wildlife habitats of Chichester Harbour.
Chichester Harbour Federation
Originating with four clubs in 1924, the Chichester Harbour Federation has grown to a total of 35 harbour organisations, representing the major users of the harbour. The Federation plays a prominent role in the management of Chichester Harbour and also in organising Chichester Harbour Race Week, one of the most popular dinghy regatta weeks, attracting in excess of 300 entries each year.
